Toto, we’re not in Mohegan Sun anymore. Jay Wright’s team undoubtedly has some firepower this year, boasting perhaps the two best players in the Big East, Collin Gillespie and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. Who cares. In other news, John’s only winning bet on the season remains the Georgetown moneyline against Coppin State so feel free to fade him.

With finals today, I’ll keep this brief. Growing up outside of Philadelphia, this game has always been the big one. My freshmen year, we pulled off an electric upset in Capital One, but little seems to have fallen our way since. The Hoyas moneyline is the play here, if only because anything can happen in a rivalry game like this. Root for chaos. As a side note, people don’t talk enough about the fact that Georgetown has probably the best pair of rivalries in all of college basketball. Sure, there are better individual rivalries in the sport, but no other team has two that run as deep as Syracuse and Nova.

Well folks, undefeated no more. Vegas deployed the trap-line to perfection, and I fell victim. Did I underestimate Georgetown basketball or overestimate Coppin State? Looks like a combination of the both, but I’ll gladly sacrifice .5 unit if it means watching Jahvon Blair stuff the stat sheet and the second coming of Wilt Chamberlain in Jamorko Pickett (Shoutout to our staff for the awesome graphic). As much as I hate to lose money, at least I found some compensation in watching the freshman get some playing time and showcase what they are all about. Nonetheless, we gain nothing from living in the past; my attention is fully on today’s game against the Wildcats. As the amazing Jon Rothstein puts it, “Villanova Basketball. A Fortune 500 Company.” Well Jon, there might not be a better way to aptly describe this team and program. For the past six years, Villanova has lived atop the Big East standings and is on the verge of achieving blue blood status. I feel as though I’m fading the Hoyas quite often, but as you’ll come to learn, I’m a value hunter. Tonight, the value lies with the Wildcats at -11.5 and the over at 142.5. This team has no weakness. Expect a monster game from Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, in my opinion the best player in the Big East. Who is going to possibly matchup against him on defense? As always, Colin Gilespie will be rock solid handling the ball, and I’m predicting a huge game from DeMatha product Justin Moore as well. What separates Villanova from the rest of the teams the Hoyas have faced is their consistency in running offense and making shots. This does not line up ideally with Georgetown’s subpar defense. Against a team this efficient, Georgetown will struggle to remain within striking distance. That all being said, maybe this Georgetown turns their momentum into a 1985 championship role reversal? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Somebody check my pulse. This is a problem. How in the world can I take the same bet as John? In the name of Patrick Ewing, somebody please help me. Is my mind a little foggy from finals szn? Yes, but did he make a good pick? Very possibly. I might have said this before every game, but until the Hoyas prove to me that they can stop a bag of half eaten potato chips from scoring, I can’t see them keeping any team, let alone the ninth-ranked Villanofun Wildcats to any remotely low score. Of course, they did just hand Coppin State a good old fashioned ass-beating, but can you really compare a team whose biggest player was shorter than John to a team coached by Jay Wright? This could be a brutal one, but depending on which Georgetown offense shows up, the spread could go either way. That’s why, against my better judgement, I will be riding with John today. Remember, a broken clock is correct twice a day so he can’t be wrong in five straight, can he? Either way, I’m looking forward to watching the Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Collin Gillespie show drop a clean 50 on the boys and Jahvon Blair answer with 25 of his own. It probably won’t be pretty, but who doesn’t love a nice high scoring affair? And let’s just remember: no matter what happens in the game, Nova still sucks.

Well, it was really, really ugly, but I finally did it. I picked a winning bet for a whole .02 units. Moving on from the sob story that is my betting career – this is Georgetown’s first Big East game and a litmus test for what’s to come. It’s their Super Bowl, if you will. I’m taking the Hoyas because, well, I’m a horrible bettor. But in actuality, it’s because if Georgetown is going to beat any of the upper-echelon Big East teams this year, it’s gotta be Nova. The no-fun Wildcats rank fourth in offensive efficiency in the country, and I believe the only way a Patrick Ewing-coached team pulls off an upset is with offense. There’s just no way the roster Ewing has put together stops standout sophomore Jeremiah Robinson-Earl down low, and Collin Gillespie has backed up his preseason BEPOY buzz so far. However, this team might just have the points in them to stick with Nova. After putting up a fight against #11 WVU, the Hoyas hammered Coppin State and annihilated a -20.5 spread. With the Hoyas coming off their first eighty point game of the season and Jahvon Blair finally drilling threes, I’m pounding the over and taking a delusional quarter unit wager on the Hoyas. You’ll probably see me back here in two days, explaining why I’m now 1-6 on the year and why Georgetown still sucks after losing by twenty to Villanofun while the under hit. I leave you with a daily dose of Rothstein: “We sleep in May.” Hoyas, 81-78.
