Recruiting Update: Niagara Transfer Marcus Hammond to Visit Georgetown

After landing Brandon Murray’s commitment to Georgetown, the Hoyas are on the hunt for more big transfer additions. Could Marcus Hammond be the next piece of the puzzle? Hammond is slated to visit Georgetown in the near future.

After making a big splash in the transfer portal and the commitment of Brandon Murray, Georgetown seems poised to land some more major talents.

Marcus Hammond has to be one of the guys at the top of their wish list. The 6’3” graduate transfer point guard from Niagara is an offensive weapon who could help Georgetown return to NCAA relevance next season. He had a whopping 107.1 offensive rating last season and averaged 18.1 points per game on 43% shooting. As the leading scorer in the MAAC, Hammond was even awarded All-MAAC First Team for his outstanding play on the season.

If I have failed to convince you that Hammond is the real deal, check out his film. In their opening game last season, Hammond put up 25 points against Xavier and followed that up with 22 points against Ohio State.

With the likely losses of veteran guards Kaiden Rice and Donald Carey, as well as freshman point guard Tyler Beard, the Hoyas would greatly benefit from Hammond’s outside scoring threat and ability to drive and dish. As it currently stands, the Hoyas’ point guards are Dante Harris and Denver Anglin. Perhaps Marcus Hammond could provide a similar role for next year’s Georgetown team to that of Terrell Allen when he wore the Blue and Gray.

Zach Braziller of the New York Post seems to think the Hoyas are in the mix for this legit graduate talent. Hopefully Coach Ewing and the assistants are able to bring Hammond to the Hilltop to help bring Georgetown all the way back to its rightful place in college basketball.
