BOOM! 2022 SF D’Ante Bass Commits to Georgetown

Just days after taking his official visit, 3-star wing D’Ante Bass committed to Georgetown this afternoon. Bass possesses a tantalizing skillset and fills a position the Hoyas were in desperate need of reinforcements at. It’s a good day to be a Georgetown fan.

The good vibes are pouring in on the Hilltop. D’Ante Bass, a 3-star wing hailing from Savannah, Georgia, committed to Georgetown this afternoon. He joins CG Denver Anglin as the second member of Georgetown’s 2022 recruiting class, which now stands as the 45th best in the nation, and the fifth best in the Big East, according to 247 Sports.

D’Ante Bass was on campus for his official visit to Georgetown on November 1st, a Monday. By the end of the week, he had committed. It’s a feather in the cap for Ewing and his staff (especially assistants Robert Kirby and Louis Orr) to seal the deal with a recruit in the same week as their official visit. The coaching staff extended an offer to Bass in December 2020, and they’ve finally got their man, beating out teams such as Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech for his commitment.

Bass is ranked 251st nationally in his class, according to 247 Sports. In an interview with Hilltop Hoops, Bass spoke about his mentality on being ranked that lowly. “The rankings, I’ve never been one to care but it does at times get disappointing because you feel like, I’m in high school, and every high schooler dreams of being ranked top-50 in the nation,” Bass said, “For me to put in all this work and they say there are 250 kids better than me who are my age, like come on. That’s blasphemy.”

What pops out immediately is his athleticism, as well as his slashing ability and touch around the rim. He also is a solid defender, and has definite upside as a shooter. Georgetown was in desperate need of a wing with long-term potential, and Bass fills that need quite well. Here’s just a taste of what Bass can do for the Hoyas.

Bass possesses a tantalizing skillset, but what made Georgetown fans fall in love with him has been an old video from his sophomore season where, after fouling out in overtime, Bass shook hands with the opposing coach before walking to his team’s bench. To the casual observer, it’s impossible to know what a player’s really like as a person, but judging from his interviews and the tape, Bass seems to be clear-headed and mature by all accounts.

It doesn’t hurt that he’s a talented player, putting up 16.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.6 assists and 1.1 blocks per game as a junior, according to the Savannah Morning News. Just watch the video below of Bass (as a sophomore!!) and try not to get hyped.

With the additions of Denver Anglin and D’Ante Bass to Georgetown’s 2022 recruiting class, Patrick Ewing and staff have continued to add what look to be long-term building pieces for the Hoyas. Hoya Saxa!
