Bet the Blue and Gray: St. John’s and Hoping for Another Qudus Block Party

The Team 16-18 (-4.33u)

  1. Jake 4-2 (+1.68u)
  2. Bobby 6-5 (+0.30u)
  3. Armen 5-3 (-0.23u)
  4. John 1-8 (-5.98u) 🀡

John continued his statistically absurd cold-steak with yet another pair of losses last weekend. He currently has lost almost 8 straight bets with his lone win being the soft Georgetown ML against Coppin State (which netted him a whopping 0.02 units). John has hereby been instructed to bet against Georgetown from here on out for the good of the program.

Too many things are working against the good guys this time. For one, Georgetown simply shot the ball uncharacteristically well in the last contest. There is no way the Hoyas replicate 48% from three and 56% from the floor. Furthermore, Mike Anderson may be able to make adjustments now that there is substantial footage of Dante Harris. Finally, St. John’s has not won an away game while they are 4-1 at home with their lone loss coming against the Creighton Blue Jays. On the other hand, Georgetown has yet to go on the road. Of course, the Hoyas have a chance to pull off the win, but I doubt they can do so with the same exorbitant scoring performance.

John, as Linnie McCallister would say, you’re what the French call “les incompetents” (Home Alone, circa 1990). In my eyes, losing eight straight bets is actually equally as impressive as winning eight in a row, but I digress. First off, I’d like to start by saying that “Berger Madness” might be the most electric Georgetown nickname in recent memory, and as of this moment, I am advocating for Wisey’s to have some sort of discount on the Burger Madness after every Hoya win (is this the unofficial beginning of a Georgetown x Wisemiller’s Collab?).

Last Sunday’s win was a great morale booster for the squad, and I believe they proved to themselves that they have what it takes to be competitive in this league. Dante and Qudus decided to show out, Jahvon flexed his clutch gene, and Donald Carey seemed to regain some of the swagger he started the season with. Today however, Georgetown ventures outside of McDonough Arena for the first time all season. Does that scare me? Nope. Regardless, this game is going to be a dog fight. When these teams play, records and stats get thrown out the window, and it all comes down to late game execution. I’m not overthinking this pick. This game is coming down to the wire, and whether or not the Hoyas prevail I cannot answer. But I do know a simple fact of life: Good teams win, great teams cover. Take the points with our beloved Hoyas.

Ladies and gentlemen, we did it. Yes, the Hoyas beat the Johnnies in a (to be put nicely) horrible, yet entertaining game, but more importantly, your boys at Bet the Blue and Gray successfully faded maybe the worst bettor ever (I’m not kidding). So after a good weekend for the bettors and a good week of finals, I come to you with yet another interesting game. First, I would like to make it very clear that I condemn John’s irrational actions. Not only did he actively bet against Georgetown by betting on them, he also took away both of my logical bets. So with that, I am lost. Do I use logic and fade John or do I do what is right? I mean he can’t miss in seven straight games, can he? I think it would be nearly statistically impossible for him to miss, so today I am playing the numbers game.

While I think the Hoyas have a pretty good chance of winning this game, just like any other St. John’s v. Georgetown game, who knows what to expect. I would love to take Georgetown to win or take the points, but I think the over is the safer bet. We know what these teams are capable of, after all the over hit by almost 40 points a week ago. And let’s be honest, both teams suck on defense. Neither team plays much defense and both teams like to run a very fast-paced offense. To be fair, 157 is a lot of points, so by no means is this a lock (especially when John takes it), but if there are two teams that can pull it off, it’s these two. So call me Dr. Over, but once again I like the over. So John, for my sake, please learn how to hit a bet.

Aminu Mohammed to commit to Georgia 1u

Echoing what I told Bobby after I was informed that the odds of me starting as cold as I have is 0.4%, eventually I’ve got to get one, right? Like seriously, I’m no Big Cat or Stu Feiner, but this is getting ridiculous. Since I’m essentially banned from taking Georgetown moneyline in any situation ever (sans Coppin State, of course), I’m going with the spread and the over here. News came out last week that Jalen Harris is taking a leave of absence from the program; we wish him all the best with his situation. The news all but means we get to see a larger dose of the reigning Big East Freshman of the Week Dante Harris. I’m taking the over because of the first game between these two and the fact that St. John’s ranks 16th in the country in adjusted tempo, meaning quicker possessions and inevitably more points. As I mentioned in my “Play the Freshmen” article, I’d love to see more of Berger Madness and Jamari Sibley out there, and I think the path of least resistance for the Hoyas will be to expand the usage of the bench overall.

My final bet is on 5-star forward Aminu Mohammed committing to the odds on Crystal Ball favorite Georgia Bulldogs in a below-the-belt effort to get him to the Hilltop. Everyone knows the path to glory is to fade me, so Aminu, do the same. If this works, I’m petitioning Jacob and Will to assume my debt in units lost so far this year. Hoyas, 82-76. Prayers up folks, big weekend ahead.
