Bet the Blue and Gray: Sizing Up Seton Hall, and John Hit A Bet

The Team 18-22 (-4.93u)

  1. Jake 4-3 (+1.18u)
  2. Armen 6-3 (+0.12u)
  3. Bobby 6-6 (-0.20u)
  4. John 2-10 (-6.03u) 👑

John’s cold streak went out with a bang. While he landed the over last game, he successfully jinxed Georgia out of Aminu Mohammed, and thus single handedly launched the Hoyas to a future of winning. Given that Aminu only finalized his decision the day of his commitment, it remains impossible to deny the John cold-streak effect.

THE BOARD

Went up to Newark for this game last year, and Georgetown struggled so much against the Pirates’ size. This year, that particular problem seems to have been solved so I’ll take the Georgetown spread. Feel like 9.5 is going to be a lot to cover for Seton Hall, especially given the Aminu adrenaline rush the Hoyas will be riding. The good guys finally have an undeniably bright future.

Finals season is over, and Christmas is right around the corner. My mind is now clear, and I can now visualize the board with immense clarity. All I want for Christmas is a Georgetown victory, but a Hoya cover works too. After a pitiful performance against St. John’s (where my Georgetown +4.5 bet got smoked), I expect the boys to come out of the gates fired up. The Pirates are a well balanced squad headlined by Sandro Mamukelashvili. Mamu reminds me of a prime Lamar Odom, so Qudus will certainly have his hands full today. As good as Seton Hall might be, I expect the Hoyas to hang around as long as they can make shots. I think Jamorko comes out hooping today; he has to be pissed off at himself after the last two games. Nervous about late game fouling busting this bet, but we’re backing our guys today. This game also just smells like points. Both teams have failed to reach 70 points in only one game this season, and I do not see either team being overly locked in defensively right before a holiday break. Kick back, relax, and hammer the over. Let’s pick up some steam heading into Christmas.

Oh my god he did it. John, you are no longer my clown. You are my king. I simply cannot believe the John Kurkjian Hex was successful in bringing Aminu to Georgetown. I bet he read Sunday’s column and said, “well if John says I’m going to Georgia, Georgetown must be the place for me.” He actually listened and faded your bet. Well done, I applaud you.

With that being said, today we have a slight predicament on our hands. With John being on vacation and unable to make picks, who in the world are we going to fade? You’re really making me think about my picks? Like thanks for Aminu, but I don’t appreciate this one John. I’m going to remember this when none of us hit our bets. Anyway, against my better judgement, I’m taking Georgetown to cover. After Sunday’s horrific showing, I think the Hoyas will come into this game fired up hoping to make a statement. To be fair, I am rooting for our mediocre Hoyas to keep it close against a very solid Seton Hall team, but after Monday’s excitement nothing is stopping them from coming out with energy. Also, something tells me Pat wasn’t too kind to our boys after their last performance, so they might have a chip on their shoulders. Maybe something to prove to their coach. But in all honesty, we need two things to happen for this bet to hit: first, Qudus can’t get into foul trouble and second, Jamorko needs to be a factor (ideally by remembering how to shoot a basketball better than a 3rd grader, but anything will do). Is it likely? No, so that’s why I’m not pounding it today, but who knows, we might have another Christmas miracle on our hands.

John

John is riding the ecstasy of hitting a bet and thus will be enjoying a vacation from this game.  Merry Christmas!
