What is Qudus Wahab Researching?

If you were watching the Georgetown-St. John’s game on Sunday, you might’ve noticed this little graphic pop up as Qudus Wahab hit the line to take some free throws.

Holy moly, there’s a lot to unpack here. Both of his parents are 5’6”? And they had a kid who’s now a 6’11” center? Just shows you how crazy genetics are.

However, that tidbit (as fascinating as it is) isn’t what caught my attention. For me, the big takeaway is that Qudus’s hobby is research.

Man, he’s a perfect fit for Georgetown. A skilled center? Check! Enjoys academics in his spare time? Check!

How did this conversation with the Fox Sports production staff even transpire?

“So Qudus, what’s a hobby of yours?”

“Research.”

One important question has burrowed its way into my brain ever since I saw the graphic: “What is Qudus researching?” I can’t get the question out of my head.

Does he go down Wikipedia rabbit holes like me, starting after looking up the filmography of Diedrich Bader and then end up getting to the page for the 1970 US Senate Election in Connecticut?

He said his favorite class is accounting. Is he simply brushing up on the latest and greatest literature about Generally Accepted Accounting Principles?

It’s exciting to hear that Qudus is a monster on the basketball court, and then he just goes back to his apartment and chills by doing some research; it’s something I’d do, and I know way too many people at Georgetown whose idea of kicking it in their spare time is by doing some casual research.

The question still remains; what is Qudus researching?

Youtube mixes of NBA highlights to learn new post moves?

New music recommendations from his favorite music magazine?

The history and cultural impact of the Showtime Lakers?

The failure of the SS Californian and its crew to adequately respond in time to the Titanic’s distress signals?

The most logical answer is that he’s just researching new ways to demoralize St. John’s. In that case, mission accomplished.
