Last year, we introduced our Preseason Preview by saying last year’s team came in to “redefine what it means to be a Georgetown Hoya.” Now we don’t want to sound like a broken record, but might we say that’s a perfect way to characterize the year ahead?
For the first time in five decades, Georgetown basketball leadership is leaving the family. After two of the worst seasons in program history, Ed Cooley takes over as head coach, bringing with him a wave of new energy while hoping to wake the sleeping beast that is Hoyas basketball. With that, Cooley has ushered in a level of optimism we have not seen in years. It has been a rough stretch for the once dominant program, but that all changes now.
So when the Hoyas tip off against the Le Moyne Dolphins on November 7th, things will look different. Besides the new faces on the coaching staff, Cooley & Co. have put together an almost entirely new roster and while year one might not be entirely smooth sailing, for the first time in a long time there is a reason to be excited about Georgetown basketball.
