Hoyas Receive 12 Seed in Big Dance, Will Open Against Colorado

No one thought Georgetown would be here. After a slow start to the season, a lengthy COVID pause and various lineup changes, the Georgetown Hoyas now find themselves in the NCAA Tournament. The Big East Tournament Champions earned a 5 seed and will play the 12th-seeded Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday.

Winning four games in four days is a near impossible feat.  The Hoyas did exactly that. They routed Marquette in the first round, sank clutch free throws to upset #14 Villanova, and overcame Seton Hall to advance to the championship. Last night, Georgetown blew Creighton out of the water with an impressive- and somewhat surreal- 73-48 victory to become Big East Tournament Champions. Now they are NCAA Tournament bound. Moments after winning the Big East Championship, Patrick Ewing made it clear that the Hoyas aren’t done yet: “We still have a lot of work ahead of us. We’re happy. We’re going to celebrate it today. But we fly to Indianapolis tomorrow and we have to get back to work.”

The Hoyas received the 12 seed in the East Region and will face Colorado in the first round. The game will be played next Saturday; game times and locations have yet to be announced. Regardless of the outcome, this season has already far exceeded expectations. From being picked dead last in the Big East preseason poll to the NCAA Tournament, here’s to one of the most memorable Georgetown basketball seasons in recent memory. Hoya Saxa!
