Hoyas are NIT Bound

While the Hoyas may have missed their shot at capturing a spot in the Big Dance, they were selected as a #3 seed in the NIT (National Invitation Tournament). Georgetown will host #6 seed Harvard at McDonough Arena (yes, you read that correctly!) with a chance to extend their season. Patrick Ewing will get his first opportunity to coach in a postseason game outside of the Big East Tournament.

Obviously, the NIT is not nearly on the same level as the NCAA Tournament. But Hoya fans should still be excited to watch this team obtain free postseason experience with little on the line. It will also be a great chance for seniors Jessie Govan, Trey Mourning, Greg Malinowski, and Kaleb Johnson play in (somewhat) meaningful games beyond the Big East Tournament. This experience will help Georgetown’s young freshmen alleviate any butterflies of playing in single-game elimination and provide further experience for next year (anything that’ll help prevent a repeat of Thursday’s disaster against Seton Hall in the future).

As seen above, Georgetown drew an 18-11 Harvard team which lost to Yale in the Ivy League championship game by a score of 97-85. This should be a fun match-up considering the Hoyas took a look at Harvard coach Tommy Amaker after firing John Thompson III.

We’ll get more analysis of the match-up in the coming days, but get excited Hoya fans! Postseason basketball is upon us!
