HILLTOP RISING: 2021 SG Aminu Mohammed Commits to Georgetown

Pop the champagne!

Aminu Mohammed has committed to Georgetown University and will be enrolling in the fall of 2021.

When asked when knew he wanted to go to Georgetown, Amimu responded candidly, “Today.”

Let that sink in.

The gravity of Aminu’s commitment cannot be overstated.  The five-star wing is the 18th best prospect in the country according to ESPN and the top-ranked player out of Washington, DC. Mohammed boasts more than enough talent to bring Georgetown all the way back to glory. His commitment brings the loaded 2021 Hoya class to 6th nationally. That’s currently ahead of blue-blood programs Michigan State, Louisville, Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, and UNC.

Calling Mohammed a solid basketball recruit would be a criminal understatement. Mohammed is a 6-4 weapon who can score on all levels. An athletic player whose build lends himself perfectly to positionless NBA play, Mohammed simply cannot be stopped when driving off the dribble. Despite averaging a whopping 34.8 points last season at the Greenwood Laboratory School in Springfield, Missouri, Aminu’s perimeter game continues to improve. Mohammed may not be incredibly long, but he does everything right. He plays with incredible hustle and uses his energy in every aspect of his game.

Georgetown has not landed as highly touted a recruit since Austin Freeman in 2007. And even without the rest of the 2021 class, this would be a monumental signing for Patrick Ewing. But, the rest of his Hoya class brings this commitment to new heights. When asked who he wanted to join him on the Hilltop, Ryan Mutombo did not mince words, “Aminu Mohammed.” Well, Ryan, your wish has been granted.

Ewing may not be winning at the rate he wants to yet, but his ability to develop players is becoming apparent. After nearly posting a triple double against St. Johns on Dec. 13, Qudus Wahab commented, “I feel happy my hard work is showing out there. My ability to learn from Coach Ewing is showing. I’m just happy.”  Mohammed will have the opportunity to bring the Hoyas back to competing for a national championship while learning from one of the best defenders in basketball history.

December 21, 2020 may just go down as the day that Georgetown basketball returned to glory.

Aminu, the Georgetown family is thrilled to have you on the Hilltop.  We cannot wait to see what you accomplish in the Blue and Gray.

Did u forget Greg Monroe in 2008

Thompson's Towel

Monroe in 2008 was ranked slightly more highly than Aminu by 24/7 Sports, but ESPN has Aminu slightly above Monroe, and Rivals doesn’t have any clear numerical value. Hence the statement.

EMMETT T BERG

Best summation I’ve seen of the news. We should schedule the toughest teams in the country for our next nonconference sked.
