I absolutely love this over – may even be my favorite bet of the year. Marquette’s offense is the 18th best in the country according to KenPom and has four players who shoot over 37% from three. Their tempo may be slightly slow, only the 245th in the country, but they turn over the ball at a very high clip (21.2%), so this game could devolve into a streaky track meet at times. This should spell points given we all know that our offense has been decently hot and likes to push the floor. If this game is anything like the second half of the Seton Hall game, the scores for both teams could be through the roof. Don’t be surprised if both teams make it into the 80’s and take the over. If you’re not yet sold, Marquette has hit the over in three out of their last four games and has done so by at least 13 points in their last two games.

Happy New Year to all prospective Hoya bettors out there. New year, same goal: over-analyze every Georgetown basketball game in the hopes of occasionally being right and making a dent in the debt incurred from typically being wrong. In my last outing, I found myself on the receiving end of a bad beat, losing both bets by two points each as I slipped down the rankings. Looking for a bounce back here.

Don’t let Marquette’s recent three game skid fool you. This is a good basketball team, with great wins over both Wisconsin and Creighton. With the Golden Eagles shooting 39.6% from three, Georgetown will have to face their fatal flaw. In each of our loses, our opponents have shot 34% or higher, and in each win opponents have only connected on 30% or less of their threes. That doesn’t bode well for us. However, I am an optimist and believe the Hoyas will fight down to the wire in this one. Quite honestly, there is not much logic behind this pick. I have scoured over every stat and still cannot really find any advantage that indicates how Georgetown can cover, but I just have a feeling. This team is unpredictable, and when we show up we’ll hang with anyone. Today will be one of those days. Oh, and take Marquette first half as an insurance policy. If my gut feeling is totally wrong and we get smoked, at least we’ll cash in on this. Here’s to a 2021 of mortal locks.

Here ye here ye, your fearless king has arrived. I may be down slightly, but as the bettor down the least and the only person on this column with a positive record, I will graciously claim my spot atop the Mount Olympus of Hoyas bettors.

As your newly crowned king, how about we start this year off with a bang? It may be a new year, but it’s the same old me, coming in hot with those spicy picks. I know, call me crazy, but I like this board, and I see free money. To start, I may be a pessimist, but in my mind there is no way on President DeGigioa’s slightly green campus that the Hoyas win this game. In classic Georgetown fashion, they’re going to come out strong and then proceed to blow the game in the second half. Knowing that Milwaukee is only good for two things (cheese curds and beer), there is a very high likelihood that the Golden Eagles are still hungover from their New Year’s festivities, but that’s not changing the fact that they are simply the better team in this ballgame. It might take Theo John (or whoever guards Qudus) about 20 minutes to figure out how to guard a big man of that caliber, but the second half will be nothing short of a beat down.

With that being said, there is also a pretty high likelihood that this game turns into another one of Georgetown’s patented shootouts. Shocker, right? After a break from action like both teams had, I’d like to think it might take some time for both defenses to come back to full strength, whatever that means. In all honesty, neither team likes to play defense, so, although he who shall not be named (**cough cough** Markus Howard) is gone, we may, once again, get lulled to sleep by shot after shot and turnover after turnover. These teams will reach 149 in their sleep. So friends, it is time to cash in big to start the new year.

In the words of the G.O.A.T Michael Jordan, “I’m back”. After willing the commitment of Aminu Mohammed to Georgetown and hitting a legitimate bet for once in my life, I have deemed myself back. I’ve returned from a mental vacation to set my sights on financial gains in 2021. That being said, let’s get down to the nitty gritty.

By now we all know just how ironically awful Georgetown’s defense is. Yet somehow it is not the worst defense in the Big East conference this season (thanks Wojo). That’s right, Marquette plays worse defense than the Hoyas. That is the sole reason I am doubling down on the over. Armen can claim he wants to fade me into oblivion all he wants, but after watching my college football bets hit all weekend, I’m ready for the hex to leave itself in the year that shall not be named. I’m not confident in Georgetown’s general ability to win this game, citing Ewing’s 1-5 record against the Golden Eagles since 2017, although much of that can simply be attributed to some dude named Markus Howard. Therefore, I’ll be kicking back tonight, avoiding spread picks, and watching the Hoyas inevitably drown themselves in an unwinnable shootout, knowing, officially, I’m back.
