In honor of the Hoyas taking the floor tonight for the first time this season, our contributors have come together for our inaugural bold predictions. Per usual, the takes are scorching hot, and we promise that after going one-for-eight last year (Providence did, in fact, sweep Georgetown, congrats John), we will be absolutely 100% correct this time around. This year, we’ve segmented our takes into three categories: Georgetown-related, Big East-Related, and national hot takes. Enjoy our expert-level takes, and go Hoyas.
Georgetown Hot Takes
Malik Mack finishes on an all Big East team – Cameron Boyd
Epps finishes 1st team all Big East, Hoyas finish .550 – Brin Lewis
Thomas Sorber wins Big East Freshman of the Year and Caleb Williams makes All-Freshman Team – Charlie Phillips
Thomas Sorber wins Big East Freshman of the Year: Liam McNeeley was voted Preseason Freshman of the Year by the media, and rightfully so. The top-10 recruit will undoubtedly play a role for the defending champs as they look for their third straight championship, and he’s the highest-touted player from this class that headed to the Big East. However, Sorber will play a massive role for the Hoyas from the jump, and much of the success of this team will be contingent upon how well the freshman rotation pieces are able to adjust to the D-1 level. If Sorber is able to adjust quickly, he will have the opportunity to contribute big numbers. – Jack Cudmore
The Hoyas win 5 Big East games this season – Brendan Cole
Georgetown will break .500 this season. It won’t be enough to meaningfully make postseason noise, but avoiding non-conference missteps and learning how to close games in Year 2 of the Cooley era will go a long way – Andrew Parry
Big East Hot Takes
Providence finishes in the top 3 and Villanova in the bottom 3 – Cameron Boyd
Hoyas make it to Big East Final but lose to UConn – Brin Lewis
Creighton to the Final Four: My bold prediction for the Big East is that Creighton goes further than any other Big East team in the tournament, including UConn, as they reach their long-awaited first Final Four appearance under Head Coach Greg McDermott. Despite departures from Baylor Scheierman and Trey Alexander, the team’s two leading scorers from last season, the Bluejays return the majority of their rotation, and add high-volume scorer Pop Isaacs from Texas Tech – Jack Cudmore
Kyle Neptune will be fired as Head Coach of Villanova come next Spring – Brendan Cole
The Big East gets seven teams into the NCAA tournament. Last year, the Big East had every right to feel disrespected, with Seton Hall just missing out, while St. John’s and Villanova came up just short as well. This year, the conference will make a statement and get more than half its membership into the Big Dance. – Andrew Parry
National Hot Takes
Texas wins March Madness – Brin Lewis
Rutgers doesn’t make the tournament – Charlie Phillips
Cooper Flagg will lead Duke to a Final Four appearance this season on his way to being the #1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft – Brendan Cole
Wade Taylor IV wins the Wooden Award at +4000, and the $5 I sprinkled on it on FanDuel returns $200 in profit. A rising senior coming off a year where he put up 19-4-3.5 per game, he has the opportunity to take the SEC and the country by storm. – Jack Cudmore
